Old books, brought back to the shelf.
A family bible with the spine hanging off. A first edition that has lost its boards. A recipe book held together with tape. We re-sew, rebuild and re-case books by hand so they can be opened and read again, not just kept in a box. Every repair is different, so we quote each one first: email us a few photos, or bring the book in.
Every repair is quoted first. Nothing is charged until you have agreed the price.

What we repair.
Loose or torn spines rebuilt, new hinges fitted, the original spine piece saved and laid back on wherever it can be.
Loose pages and broken sections sewn back together and the text block cased into the repaired or a new hard cover.
Worn covers replaced in buckram or leatherette, with the title and author stamped in gold to match the original.
Tears mended with archival tissue, surface dirt lifted, dog-ears and creases flattened.
Older and valuable books treated with reversible, acid-free materials so nothing we do limits a conservator later.
A thesis bound decades ago, re-cased or re-lettered to sit beside the new one.
How a repair works.
Email two or three photos of the book: the cover, the spine and the damage. Tell us roughly how old it is and what you would like done.
You get a price and a turnaround, usually the same day. Most repairs take one to three weeks.
Bring the book to Botany Downs, or courier it to us well wrapped. We confirm when it arrives.
We send a photo when it is done. Pick up, or we courier it back tracked and insured.
